Georgia has vast untapped potential in hydropower. Out of more than 20,000 rivers, 300 provide excellent opportunities for hydropower generation. It is estimated that only 25% of economically feasible hydropower potential is exploited today and there is potential to produce an additional 24TWh annually.

There are approximately 90 hydropower plant (HPP) projects (less than 100 MW) on the pre-feasibility study stage with financial and technical projections. The Government of Georgia is very accommodating and supportive of investors in this field. Taking into account the above, we have launched the Renewable Energy Fund, which aims to leverage Georgia’s hydropower advantage by investing in selected HPP projects.

•    USD 100 m+ fund to be launched with RP Global – an independent power producer with over 25 years of experience in the renewable energy sector, headquartered in Vienna, Austria – in the beginning of 2015
•    REF will develop medium-sized (20-50MW installed capacity) hydropower plants in Georgia
•    REF will invest in equity and raise debt financing from local and international lenders.
